Songwriting’. (Naledi Book Publishers ISBN 978-1-928530-87-9)
Regard and Clive met in 2010. They partnered up in 2021 to share their
love for songwriting with the world.

Gian Groen

Director

Gideon Hanekom is a successful songwriter and South-African artist who paved the way for many others during the past 25 years. His dad taught him his first three cords on the guitar as a teenager. In 1999 Gian started his first band called ‘Spinnekop’.

They performed all over the country with students dancing to the tune of their songs. ‘Binneland In’ and ‘Tiger & Louise’ were amongst the favourites. The band’s album ‘GroenKitaar’ was named rock album of the year by Beeld in the year of 2000. Gian’s big brake came when Laurika Rauch decided to record his song ‘Vier Seisoene Kind’. This event sparked a wave of creativity where Gian mastered the art of songwriting. Many artists such as Kurt Darren, Dozi and Theuns Jordaan were drawn to his song writing ability in the last 20
years. Gian has a way with words no doubt. With many albums later, thousands of shows and tons of hours behind the creative pen Gian Groen became one of South-Africa’s most accomplished songwriters.

‘Lonely Troebadoer’ is Gian’s latest hit song released in 2022. Regard and Gian shared a house during 2010-2011 and also shared the stage every week. They even wrote a couple of songs together during that period. Gian was one of the first people to show Regard the healing powers of song writing.

Regard Grobler

Director

Regard has 15 years’ experience as a professional musician, performing artist,
music lecturer, producer, music composer, songwriter and band leader. Instruments include Bass Guitar, Acoustic Guitar, Electric Guitar, Piano, Organ, Harmonica, Ukulele and Drums. Regard shared the stage with the likes of Roan ash, Gian Groen, Anton Goosen, Jan Blohm, Pieter Smith, MD Greyling, Albert Frost, Gerald Clark, Abel Kraamsaal and Clive Ridgeway.

Performances done all over South-Africa (Aardklop, KKNK, Wine & Leisure Festivals, Raport Sundays, Springbok Halfmens Festival, Hermanus Whale Festival, Numerous Blues Festivals and more) Gian Groen was the first South African artist who recorded one of Regard’s original songs. They also co-wrote a song for the same album. In 2014 Mauritz Lotz recorded a song called ‘Toe ek ophou soek’ that Regard wrote for a friend’s wedding in Romania. It was used in the movie soundtrack for ‘Eintlik Nogal Baie’. His song ‘Plaasmeisie’ reached the top 5 on local radio sang by the former boy band MAN in the same
year.
In 2019 Regard played the Sun Arena (Menlyn Maine) with Gian Groen. His song writing journey will continue with exciting new collaborative projects and teachings. Teaching music and Song writing is a lifelong passion for Regard. He dreams of a world where people find song writing a healthy coping method in broken times.
